How does the kinetic energy of the Sea sound? What is archeology with AI, or what did the Roman baths in Varna looked like in their prime (1500 years ago). A botanic classification of weeds and the micro sounds of the city. These are just a few of the topics developed within the first edition of the “Art and Science in Varna” Residency. Come see the results!

 

TIME CAPSULE presents the results of the first edition of “Art and Science in Varna” Residency. The project is supported by the National Fund for Culture, Varna Municipality and the Varna Regional Museum of History.

 

Context

 

In August 2022 Talyana Association and the cultural space ReBonkers in Varna held the first edition of an interdisciplinary “Art and Science in Varna” Residency

8 artists from Bulgaria and the world were selected via open call and conducted fieldwork in Varna in collaboration with the Varna Regional Museum of History - a complex of 6 museums with collections varying from antiquity and archeology, modern history, nature, iconography and more.

 

On the 15th June in the Institute of Contemporary Art – Sofia and ReBonkers will present the catalog with the results from the 1st edition of the “Art and Science in Varna” Residency.

Artist, doctoral candidate and lecturer in Digital Arts at the National Arts Academy, Bulgaria

 

Dr. Benjamin Goldberg

PhD in History of Philosophy and Science (Pittsburgh University), expert in history of Medicine, professor of Art history at the University of South Florida, USA

 

Ralitsa Gerasimova

Social anthropologists, researcher and curator, artistic director at the independent art space ReBonkers, Varna, Bulgaria
