Solo Exhibition
EIBANK Gallery, Sofia
4 – 30 June 2008
The rhythm of modern times has subjected us to constant visual attacks. The dynamic shifting of images in our daily life has coarsened our senses and attentiveness. Everything burst out by the cinema, television and the Internet, targeting our consciousness, turns into an amalgam of images in which the individual scene and the moment have no value. Today no one has time for contemplation.
As Krasimir Terziev put it: “Until you download a certain image you have already forgotten it...” He has dedicated himself completely to those scenes which have managed to grab his attention in the technological flow for at least a short while. He has retained them and invested them with new meanings. The medium he has chosen is classic in nature and traditional - painting. He uses it as a means to reproduce visions seen on TV, the cinema screen and the computer monitor, and he has also added his own authorial interpretation. This is a type of peculiar mutation or media realism which Krasimir Terziev turns into a picture and displays in the gallery. The message is social and is engaged with the ways in which we accept reality today and the intermediaries through which we communicate with it.
The series “Missing Scenes” is a long-term project which the painter started last year. Now, in the gallery of EIBank he is presenting 10 new pieces created in 2008 in different formats. The technique is acrylic on canvas. The missing scenes come from famous movies, the news, common urban plots, and from Google.
The author has collected all remakes of the classic “King Kong” in one scene. On most canvases he has completely reversed the standard perspective of the picture and has achieved a unique reportage effect.
Krasimir Terziev is one of the most popular modern Bulgarian artists. He makes video, installations and painting art pieces. Last year he received the established artist award in the Mr. Gaudenz B Ruff’s competition in the sphere of new Bulgarian art.
As one of the main topics in his artistic work Krasimir Terziev elaborates on the latest cinematic developments – as a process, as a vision, and as subject - matter.
