The project is about certain differences related to time and context that I found during my 5 weeks residency in Berkeley, California. It is a reflection on the concrete environment, way of existence, people, and their characteristics. It is a study of the specific “time” and “place”; it creates a visual image based on the results of an artistic process of surveillance and discovery of a particular social system or territory.
This is a two-channel videoinstallation on two separate transparent screens.
The first one shows a lot of animated, smooth motioned, still shots of the houses, neighborhoods, and streets seen as a living context. There is an endless text running over the image during the whole duration of the video sequence. The text is a form of sharing some of my impressions that are very simple and more like a variety of notes with no pretension for accurate description. These are just words that came to my mind during the process of observation. The text runs in constant slow speed, from left to right, across the middle of the image.
The second video shows a contrasting situation. It is a close-up image of a retimed motion of a crowd of people who are just walking on the streets of a big city. They are filmed either as whole shape of a multitude of people or while focusing on to some details like faces, directions, etc. Generally speaking, it is meant as a formal image of the daily suspense of city-life.
Both channels combine and compare two different contexts – opposing and complementing each other with their content and feel.
